Neither the bulls or the bears were able establish dominance in the session as the index added a quarter handle to close at 4136.50.

The bulls can claim a small win as the low for the day was far above triple bottom (just under 4100), as 4128.75 was the low for the session. The bears can claim a small win as the index failed to make a new closing high for the rebound and the index tapered off into the close.

Perhaps Wednesday’s announcement of the March Consumer Price Index data will tilt the scale in favor of one of them.

UnitedHealth Group Inc. (NYSE: UNH) was the biggest winner of the top components of the index. For the session, the issue added $5.79 or 1.12% to close at $520.97.

That was much better than the cash index that was flat for the session.

The exodus out of mega cap tech stocks continued as Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN) was the biggest loser of the top components of the index. For the session, the issue declined by $2.25 or 2.2% at the closing price of $99.92.
