In one of the smallest trading ranges of the year (12 handles overall and only 8.25 during the regular session), the index posted a small gain. Thus, it improved on the closing high for the move by one handle at the closing price of 4568.25.

However, it was unable to make a new high for the move, missing Wednesday’s high by just over six handles (4574 vs. 4580.50).

The bulls were unable to test the premarket high, while the bears made a few attempts to breach the premarket low, but were thwarted by a few ticks. 

This marked the fourth consecutive week of gains, adding 40.50 handles, which is by far the smallest one of the four.

Among the top components, Eli Liily and Co. (NYSE: LLY) was the biggest winner. For the session, the advanced $6.01 or 1.01% at the closing price of $601.10. 

This performance was nearly one percent better than the cash index which added 0.06%. 

NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ: NVDA) was the biggest loser for the second day in a row. Investors are concerned about the restrictions being placed on their chip sales to China. For the session, the issue declined by $9.40 or 1.93% at the closing price of $477.76.
